I just bought a new WRT120N router and it works perfectly on cable and Wi-Fi with one major issue on Wi-Fi. If i connect my phone or any phone for that matter that knows N speed the connection speed is 65Mbps and that is fine as all phones are limited to this speed over Wi-Fi. When I connect a Sony laptop that has N connection speed up to 300 Mpbs the connection speed shows as 65Mpbs. Are there any special settings I have to do to make the connection at least 100 or 120 Mpbs? What is the maximum connection speed of this model because I couldn't find any information about this. I did some digging on google and found that some people have connection speed of 120 Mpbs but they didn't give any advice on the settings they used or how they got to this speed. Keep in mid that I am refering to the connection speed now the actual download speed. So what settings I have to do to get at least 100 Mpbs speed connection?
LE: I would prefer a setting that would alow me to connect a Galaxy Nexus phone an iPhone 3G and the Sony laptop so that all of them will be connected at the maximum speed suported by that specific device.

My setup is a Dynalink modem to my WRT120N which is wired to my PC. I have bought a new HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, I use this wireless. This laptop has 'n' wirless card. At the moment when I transfer a file from my pc to my laptop they maximum speed is 2mb/s, even when I sit the laptop right beside the WRT120N.

Linksys WRT120N routers include a very basic firewall that helps protect your home network form unwanted access from the internet. Since this firewall blocks incoming connections you may need open a port through it for certain games and applications. This process of opening a port is frequently called a port forward, since you are forwarding a port from the internet to your home network.

The basic process to open a port is:

1. Setup a static IP address on either your computer or device that you want to forward a port to.
2. Login to your Linksys WRT120N router.
3. Navigate to the port forwarding section.
   • Click the Applications & Gaming link.
   • Click on Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding.
4. Create a port forward entry.

While these steps might seem difficult at first, we will walk you through each step for your Linksys WRT120N router.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

Now we are going to login to your Linksys WRT120N router. Your router has a web interface, so you will login to it using your web browser.This can be either Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Edge. It usually does not matter which browser you choose to use.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

In the picture above the address bar has 192.168.1.1 in it. Just replace all of that with the IP address of your Linksys WRT120N router.Your router's IP address can also be refered to as your computer's default gateway.

By default the IP address is set to: 192.168.1.1

After entering the IP address of your router you can simply press enter. If all goes well you will see the following screen:

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password.

Enter your username and password, and then click the Login button to log in to your Linksys WRT120N router.

Step 3

Now we need to find the port forwarding section in your router. Here's how you do it. Starting from the first page in your router:

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.

You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding.

Forwarding a Port Range

You need to name this entry in the Application box. The name does not make any difference in the forward; it's just there so that you can remember later why you setup this forward.

If you are just forwarding a single port number then you can simply enter that same number into both the Port Range Start and the Port Range End boxes. If you are forwarding a range of ports, usually separated by a hyphen, then you need to enter the lowest number of that range into the Port Range Start box and then enter highest number into the Port Range End box.

Select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding from the TCP UDP box.

Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to into the IP Address box. Note that if you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box instead.

In the Enabled checkbox put a checkmark.

Forwarding a Single Port

Enter the name of the program into the Application box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded is be a good idea.

Enter the port to forward into the External Port and the Internal Port boxes.

Select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding from the Protocol box.

Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to into the IP Address box. Note that if you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box instead.

In the Enabled checkbox put a checkmark.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

Test if Your Ports are Open

Now that you have forwarded ports on the Linksys WRT120N you should test to see if your ports are forwarded correctly.
